Antibiotic medication has become more and more prevalent in regards to fighting infections, and as infections tend to change with time, the pharmaceutical industry has continued its fight against them with millions of dollars spent in research and development in order to provide stronger medications to fight these ever-changing maladies.
One of the most powerful and reputable antibiotic medications on the market in recent years is Cipro, which is manufactured by Bayer. Cipro is one of these powerful antibiotic medications that's offered in pill form, and it earned its status as a 'household' name after the attacks of 9/11 and the subsequent anthrax scare.
In fact, Cipro is one of the drugs that the United States government keeps in stock to help in case of a widespread attack of this nature, as it's thought to be one that could help stem the tide of any sort of epidemic that could result in such an attack.
However, in more common situations, Cipro is used to help fight more common infections, such as urinary tract infections and the like, and for the most part, the drug has enjoyed a high degree of success, which clearly has led to an enormous amount of revenue generation for Bayer.
However, recent news has come to light that has brought unwanted scrutiny onto Cipro, and this has come in the form of a public warning issued in recent days by the Food and Drug Administration in regards to Cipro and the risk of side effects to which it has been linked.
Specifically, the use of Cipro has been linked to the development of tendon ruptures and tendonitis, and the number of cases of both tendonitis and tendon ruptures linked to Cipro numbers in the hundreds, according to one consumer advocacy group, Public Citizen, which sued the FDA for more direct warnings.
Ultimately, the FDA has decided to require what's known as a "Black Box" warning on all labels of Cipro that specifically detail the risk of tendon problems with the use of this drug. If you or someone you love has been injured as a result of using Cipro, you need to contact a defective drugs attorney as soon as possible to schedule an initial consultation.
